I apologise for my prolonged absence from this space and for the fact i’ll probably be absent for quite sometime after. Just like the economic slowdown our world is experiencing right now, it seems life has slowed down for me too. That’s not to say i’ve chosen to stop living, but simply that life has chosen not to spring any surprises on me. Such a state of affairs might be considered boring by alot people but bored i certainly am not. One might almost say that i’m content. In a way, i’m thankful for this mundanity as it gives me the opportunity to settle down and focus my energies on one of the things which my entire existence currently revolves around. In other words, next week marks the period in which i have to begin preparations for the upcoming battle @ Part 1 May/June Final Examinations. Some part of me is somewhat terrified at the prospect that this particular exam could very well decide the course of the rest of my life but at the same time i relish the thought of taming this proverbial beast.

As the definite literal beauty who claims my heart, I guess the only sort of interesting update i can give is that i may finally be getting to her. Although it may be but wishful thinking, i can’t help but remain hopeful. For what could be sweeter than winning the heart of a fair maiden and riding of into the sunset on the beat of leathery wings, eh?

First week back after Chinese New Year and raring to go.

What did i do to turn you on tonight?

This night signifies the end of this year’s Chinese New Year festivities – for me at least. This night also marks the beginning of the period of which i have to get down to some serious studying. And finally, this night means that my ang pow collection this year is abysmally small.

At any rate, this year’s CNY felt very different. For one thing, it was the lack of festivities which made celebrating in itself a rather sombre affiair. Even the state government sponsored open house i went to earlier tonight felt rather muted in all its gaiety. Of course, the reasons for this are obvious and need not be reiterated here.

Another noticeable shift was that i was more keen in meeting up with my friends than i was with my relatives. Not that my relatives actually fit the stereotype by pestering me with inane questions about everything from studies to my love life, it’s just that i don’t actually have anything to look forward to in meeting them. Man, i wish i had a hot female cousin or two.

I wrote this for my college newsletter last year. Just thought i’d share it with you guys. Mind you it’s only an excerpt of a much a longer article.

A man lies atop a pile of refuse; his body wounded, battered and broken. Every breath he takes is pure agony. The walls which surround him are too high to climb and are slick with filth. A movement by his side catches his attention. He reels back at the sight of a creature laying there in the waste – deformed, disgusting and gasping for breath. It is a pitiful thing: a newborn babe, barely out of the womb. He scoops the thing up and cradles it to his breast. The little thing squirms at the touch but then settles down in the warmth of the man’s embrace. Despite his own pain, his heart aches at the injustice of it all. Just then, an old man appears at the top of the pit. He looks down at the man sitting there and stretches out his hand, “Give me your hand, sir”. The man stares up at the old one, then looks down at the creature in his arms. As he looks back up at the old man, tears begin to stream down his face, “I can’t”.

First week back at college was expectedly slow. However, i think i’ve found new direction.

With my holidays nearly at an end, i’m pleased to report that it has been largely well-spent. I say “largely” because while my time wasn’t used very productively in meeting certain goals i had set out for myself, i certainly achieved in essence what holiday breaks are meant to be about. Not to ramble on incessantly about inane matters to feed my egotism, here are a few interesting items i encountered while browsing the net…
